Cameron showed the intention to participate in Steamboy and G.R.M. as an executive producer.

Cameron withdraws cooperation. "I can't direct to Otomo and Oshii whom I respect as a producer."

Watanabe visited Centropolis Entertainment and conferred with Roland Emmerich and Dean Deblin.
And they have agreed fundamentally to develop Steamboy jointly.
However, they demanded change of the story of Steamboy for American audience.
March 1999
An American scenario writer's story proposal is completed. However, since it was the extremely
stereotype Hollywood story, the Japan side refused it. After all, development of the Japanese original
story was decided, taking Americans' proposal into consideration.

Watanabe visited Silver Pictures. Joel Silver basically agreed to participation in the
production of Steamboy.
February 2000
The negotiation with Silver broke down by the difference of opinion to the video-ized right in Japan.
The production stop of Steamboy was also considered as the worst situation.
Otomo said to staff "it's disagreeable to give up Steamboy."

Productin cost was assumed 1.8 billion yen.
Watanabe holds a conference with CANAL+ company in France. Although CANAL+ agrees on
the collaboration of 50% investment, it broke off by the change in company's basic principles.
Continuation of production by the group Bandai Visual, Bandai and Sunrise etc, was determined.

Production studio was changed into Sunrise from Studio4C and production re-started.

The investment of Sony Pictures and the distribution in Europe and US were decided.

All background complete. The background was drawn by only six persons, in order to unify quality.

Drawing all key animation finished. The period required in order to draw is seven year and three month 24 days.

Production finished miraculously.
