COURT-MÉTRAGES
Après une tournée en festivals, le très beau court métrage Bye-Bye Elida de Titouan Bordeau est enfin en ligne.
Un film de 36 minutes, animé entièrement seul par Titouan, qui comme dans plusieurs de ses précédents courts propose ici un univers au rythme assez unique, avec un folklore et un écosystème singulier, où les personnages/objets/éléments se mélangent dans une subtile et mystérieuse logique poétique. Le tout avec quelques vibes Yuasa/Laloux.

Director's note (english below) :
Il y a 4 ans, début avril 2019 je rentrais à Angoulême après quelques mois d'animation (sur Vanille de Guillaume Lorin), j'ouvrais mes droits de chômage et je commençais l'animatique d'un moyen-métrage avec pour objectif de le terminer en un an.
C'était une année intense dans les locaux du Sapin Sympa, accompagné des camarades de l'atelier et des quelques personnes qui m'ont aidé sur l'animation du film. Un an plus tard, après quelques confinements, Flavien Van Haezevelde a prit la relève pour la création sonore du film.
L'équipe de Novanima Prod qui avait rejoint l'aventure en cours de route, s'est ensuite occupée de la vie du film en festival pendant 2 ans. Son parcours en salle s'achève alors, et je trouve important que le film puisse continuer à être vu.
Installez-vous bien, fermez les rideaux, mettez vos téléphones en mode avion et laissez-vous embarquer calmement.
C'est un film qui a été pensé sans contraintes de durée ni de narration et qu'il semblait difficile de faire entrer dans un cadre de financement et production classique. Malgré tout, dans ma tête, le film méritait d'exister et je suis content d'avoir pu aller jusqu'au bout. Le film a reçu un bon accueil en festival et je suis très satisfait de la manière dont il a été vu. Ça valait le coup et ça m'a donné une énergie de dingue pour pousser ses univers étranges encore plus loin.
Je remercie tout particulièrement Marc Faye et l'équipe de Novanima qui m'ont fait confiance sur cet étrange projet, et bien évidemment Flavien qui a fait un travail sonore d'exception qui selon moi apporte une profondeur et une couleur unique au film.

4 years ago, at the beginning of April 2019, I returned to Angoulême after a few months of animation (on Vanille by Guillaume Lorin), I opened my unemployment rights and I started the animatic of a medium-length film with the aim of finish it in a year.
It was an intense year in the offices of Sapin Sympa, accompanied by my friends from the atelier and the few people who helped me with the animation of the film. A year later, after a few confinements, Flavien Van Haezevelde took over for the sound creation of the film.
The Novanima Prod team, which had joined the adventure along the way, then took care of the life of the film at the festival for 2 years. Its theatrical journey ends then, and I find it important that the film can continue to be seen.
Make yourself comfortable, close the curtains, put your phones on airplane mode and let yourself board calmly.
It's a film that was conceived without constraints of duration or narration and that it seemed difficult to fit into a classic financing and production framework. Despite everything, in my head, the film deserved to exist and I am happy to have been able to reach my goal. The film had a good reception at festivals and I am very satisfied with the way it was seen. It was worth it and it gave me a crazy energy to push his strange universes even further.
I especially thank Marc Faye and the Novanima team who trusted me on this strange project, and of course Flavien who did exceptional sound work which, in my opinion, brings a unique depth and color to the film.

Le tout réalisé par le Shingo Yamashita, avec Hitomi Kariya à la direction de l'animation.

Ce générique a été réalisé et storyboardé par Weilin Zhang, qui s'est aussi chargé de la direction de l'animation.

A l'issue du divertissant et sympathique (même si très classique) film d'animation de Super Mario Bros, j'ai zieuté comme souvent avec beaucoup d'attention les credits du générique de fin, et observé un remerciement spécial jusque là non relevé : un special thank à Yoichi Kotabe.
L'occasion donc de rappeller que Mr Kotabe est une légende de l'animation et du design : ancien collaborateur de Miyazaki & Takahata (Horus, Puss 'n Boots, Heidi, Panda Kopanda, Marco, Jarinko Chie ...), il a longtemps travaillé dans l'ombre chez Nintendo, pour qui il a notamment relooké le design de Mario, créé Yoshi et Wario, et collaboré à d'autres jeux célèbres comme Zelda et Pokemon.
Je lui avais consacré un reportage vidéo en 2020 dans le cadre de sa venue en Suisse pour une exposition Heidi, et j'en profite pour partager avec vous quelques photos montrant (et c'est très rare) certains de ses travaux pour Nintendo (via l'exposition la même année dont je parlais dans la même news).
Et j'ai aussi relevé un autre special thank à Alex Hirsch (Gravity Falls), qui a brièvement travaillé sur le film au début du projet, selon certaines sources.

La légendaire autrice de manga Rumiko Takahashi (Lamu, Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha) a reçu aujourd'hui la décoration de Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, des mains de l'ambassadeur de France au Japon.
Elle est la première femme mangaka à recevoir cette distinction, après ses collègues Katsuhiro Otomo, Leiji Matsumoto, Akira Toriyama, Go Nagai, et Jiro Taniguchi.

Le clip du jour - et de quasiment 5 minutes - est sans aucun doute Still Alive, réalisé par Etienne Guignard pour la chanson de Aurus.
Et il s'agit ici de la première réalisation d'Etienne, jusque là storyboarder pour des productions comme Steven Universe, Lastman, Ladybug, Spider-Man, Glitch Techs... et aussi adepte des hommages animés, comme à Dragon Ball, One Piece (ou encore Catsuka ;-).
Un clip que j'avais eu la chance de voir en off l'an dernier déjà, animé et colorisé entièrement seul par Etienne, lors d'un long séjour qu'il a passé à la Réunion.

Le 1er avril, Bandai Toys a publié une vidéo contenant notamment un mystérieux teasing pour une nouvelle collaboration liée au Shin Japan Heroes Universe, projet merchandising réunissant depuis maintenant un moment les personnages/licences des différents films live *Shin* d'Hideaki Anno, donc pour rappel : Evangelion, Godzilla, Ultraman, et Kamen Rider.
Peut-être qu'il s'agit de futurs nouveaux toys (car ils avaient déjà commencé jadis avant de brander le concept), peut-être qu'il s'agit d'un poisson, en tous cas ce crossover de licences continue de suivre son cours (via notamment des tshirts en ce moment chez Uniqlo par ex, y compris en France).

Le 1er épisode de la nouvelle série animée japonaise Heavenly Delusion est sortie ce week-end à l'international chez Disney (qui a acheté les droits monde) en même temps que sa diffusion au Japon.
Mais comme souvent avec Disney et les animes, c'est assez laborieux. Ils ne font quasiment pas de com sur les productions japonaises (anim ou live, d'ailleurs) qu'ils achètent et mettent à dispo. Une mauvaise habitude ici agrémentée de deux autres cerises pourries sur le gâteau :
- vous ne trouverez tout simplement pas la série si vous tapez le titre international "Heavenly Delusion" dans le moteur de recherche de Disney+, il faut taper le titre VO : "Tengoku Daimakyo".
- selon les pays, la série n'est pas forcément sur Disney+, mais sur Star+ (si Star n'est pas intégré à Disney+ j'imagine), et aux USA il semble que la firme de la souris ait transféré la série sur Hulu finalement, mais ces derniers ont eu un bug, l'épisode n'est pas encore dispo, retardé à une date encore indéterminée (alors qu'en France on peut voir sur Disney+ la version sous titrée anglais).
Bref...
L'épisode 1 est très prometteur en tous cas, comme je l'avais pressenti.
Ah et j'ai réussi à trouver 1 version officielle du trailer sous-titrée en anglais sur le compte Youtube de Disney+ ... Singapour.

RIP Ryuichi Sakamoto (1952 - 2023).
Le talentueux compositeur s'est éteint le 28 mars, son décès n'ayant été annoncé qu'aujourd'hui.
Connu d'abord comme membre du Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO), il a ensuite oeuvré en solo notamment sur de très nombreuses musiques de films, l'un des plus célèbres et singuliers étant Furyo (Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence), où il jouait aussi en tant qu'acteur l'un des rôles principaux, aux côtés de David Bowie.
Il composa également des OST d'animes, d'Honneamise à la récente série Exception.
Il fût atteint en 2021 d'un (deuxième) cancer, qui lui a malheureusement été fatal.
