Annoncé fin 2019, Shika no Ou : Yuna to Yakusoku no Tabi ("The Deer King") se dévoile enfin dans un premier trailer.

Il s'agit de la nouvelle production long-métrage 2D de qualité du fameux studio Production IG (Ghost In The Shell), et il s'agit aussi du tout premier film réalisé par Masashi Ando, animateur japonais légendaire.

Difficile de résumer sa riche carrière, mais sachez qu'il a occupé à la fois les postes de character-designer & directeur de l'animation sur de nombreux Ghibli (dont Princesse Mononoke et Chihiro), sur plusieurs oeuvres de Satoshi Kon (Paprika, Paranoia Agent), sur A Letter to Momo, ou encore sur Your Name.

Il signe ici aussi le chara-design et la direction d'animation, sachant qu'il est épaulé de Masayuki Miyaji en co-réalisateur.

Le film est attendu dans les salles japonaises le 10 septembre 2021.



Synopsis :

Van is the head of a group of soldiers who expected to die fighting for their lands against a large empire looking to incorporate their home into its kingdom. Instead of dying, however, Van is taken as a slave and thrown into a salt mine. One night, a pack of strange dogs attacks the salt mine, and a mysterious illness breaks out. During the attack, Van takes the opportunity to escape, and he meets a young girl. Elsewhere, rumor is spreading that only immigrants are coming down with this mysterious illness. The medical scientist Hossal risks his life to search for a cure. Doctors also study a father and child who seem to have survived the illness.
