Le studio japonais Dwarf vient de publier un clip / bande démo pour célébrer leurs 20 ans d'existence, et je trouve qu'il est aussi parfait pour vous souhaiter de joyeuses fêtes de fin d'année !

Dwarf partie de mes studios d'animation préférés, et c'est l'un des rares à être spécialisé depuis très longtemps dans la stop motion, surtout au Japon, où ils sont notamment connus pour le personnage de Domo-Kun (mascotte de la chaîne NHK) créé par Tsuneo Goda, fondateur et pilier créatif du studio.

Mais Dwarf c'est aussi d'autres personnages et animations adorables, comme Komaneko et Mogu & Perol, ou encore les séries de Rilakkuma sur Netflix, un personnage qu'ils avaient d'ailleurs animé bien avant son arrivée sur la plateforme SVOD (pour laquelle ils ont aussi collaboré à la série Oni: Thunder God's Tale, qui avait été à une époque prévue pour être animée en stop-motion chez eux).

Le studio a aussi produit de très nombreux films de commandes mettant en scène d'autres personnages connus, comme Danboard (Yotsuba), Beastars, Yoshi, Osomatsu-san... et des clips touchants comme By Your Side ou Atatakai Te.

En 2012, au Centre Pompidou, j'avais également projeté leur court métrage Plug, The New World dans le cadre d'une carte blanche Catsuka.

While stop-motion is fascinating, there are very few places for it. So I decided to create a place where people who want to work on it can do so. That’s how I started dwarf studios, which has grown into a team of more than 20 people over the past 20 years.

The small office that was like a child's room, has grown into a studio with various kinds of equipment that enables many different possibilities.

I am very thankful to all the people who have been involved in our work, the animations and characters that came to life, and I am proud of everyone who has been here (including who have already left).

I am looking forward to meeting new people, seeing more new expressions, and finding more new stories.

Hoping that dwarf can become a place that inspires the creation of even more intriguing creative work.
