Déjà évoqué dans mes colonnes en marge du dernier festival professionnel du Cartoon Movie, "L'île aux Salamandres" (The Island of Salamanders) est un projet de long métrage porté par la réalisatrice Catherine Maximoff, en co-production européenne avec Les Contes Modernes (France), Artichoke (Slovaquie) et Fabian&Fred (Allemagne).

Librement inspiré du roman "La guerre des salamandres" de Karel Capek, le film a pour autrice graphique Catherine Manesse (anciennes des Gobelins), en animation 3D rendu 2D (Unreal Engine).

Echouée avec son père, businessman en cavale, sur une île sauvage, Juliette, 11 ans, rencontre une étonnante salamandre géante, végétant avec les siens sur l’îlot voisin entouré de requins. L’enfant et la bête se lient d’amitié. Le vieux Pramana l’a pourtant mise en garde : si les salamandres sont libérées, elles envahiront la Terre…

Washed up on a wild island with her father, businessman at large, Juliet, 11 years old, meets an astonishing giant salamander. The animal and its fellows have been vegetating on the nearby small island surrounded by sharks. The girl and the beast become friends. However the old Pramana warned her : if the salamanders are freed, they will invade the world…
