Premier teaser pour le film franco-japonais Ghost Cat Anzu (Nobuhiro Yamashita & Yoko Kuno avec Shin-Ei & Miyu)
Premier teaser pour le long métrage franco-japonais Ghost Cat Anzu ("Anzu, chat-fantôme"), réalisé par Nobuhiro Yamashita (habitué du live action) et Yoko Kuno (que je suis et relaie depuis longtemps).
Adapté du manga de Takashi Imashiro, produit par Shin-Ei Animation (Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan) et Miyu Productions, le film est attendu en Juillet au cinéma au Japon, distribué par Toho.
D'autres sorties internationales sont prévues, à commencer en France bien sûr via Diaphana, et aux USA via GKIDS.
Un beau projet qui utilise la technique de la rotoscopie, et que j'avais déniché en 2021 (à l'époque où personne n'en parlait encore, comme souvent).
Des acteurs connus ayant ainsi joué et servi de référence rotoscopie aux animateurs, avec Mirai Moriyama dans le rôle d'Anzu, et Noa Goto dans le rôle de Karin (les deux comédiens assurant évidemment aussi les voix au final, bien sûr).
En rappelant également quelques infos au sujet de la répartition la prod : l'animation et le compo ont été faits au Japon, tandis que la France s'est occupée des décors / mise en couleurs des personnages.
Avec notamment Julien de Man en directeur artistique, et Guillaume Cassuto pour la mise en place artistique du compositing.
Anzu, chat-fantôme raconte l’histoire de Karin, 11 ans, abandonnée par son père chez son grand-père, le moine d’une petite ville de la province japonaise. Celui-ci demande à Anzu, son chat-fantôme jovial et serviable bien qu’assez capricieux, de veiller sur elle. La rencontre de leurs caractères bien trempés provoque des étincelles, du moins au début...

Pour rappel, le long métrage d'animation 3D chinois Le Royaume des Abysses (aka "Deep Sea") sort aujourd'hui dans les salles françaises via le distributeur KMBO.
Réalisé par Tian Xiaopeng (Monkey King: Hero Is Back) au sein de son studio October Media, ce film a mis 7 ans à se faire, je vous en parle depuis 2020 (et son pilote que j'avais repéré), et je ne peux que vous encourager à le voir en salles, car outre l'expérience visuelle unique qu'il procure, c'est aussi tout simplement un bon film, et touchant, qui pourra parler aux plus jeunes comme aux plus grands.
J'en profite également pour vous glisser ci-dessous 4 extraits HD du film (deux en VOSTF, et deux en VF).
Le film fût un énorme succès lors de sa sortie en Chine l'an dernier (140 millions d'euros au box office local, pour un budget de 25 millions). Il s'agit aussi d'un des rares films d'animation chinois pensé aussi pour l'international, le réalisateur ayant souhaité faire découvrir l'animation chinoise (méconnue) au plus grand nombre à travers notamment une direction artistique s'inspirant d'un art chinois davantage connu à l'étranger, celui de la peinture à l'encre de Chine. Et le tout avec un 3D poussée à un niveau jamais vu jusque là.

5 months ago Patrick Harpin walked into Warner Bros Pictures / DC and pitched a "Batman Beyond" Animated Feature.
Before we pitched, they warned us "there is absolutely no way we can do a 𝘉𝘦𝘺𝘰𝘯𝘥 movie", but they loved our enthusiasm. We pitched the outline for the entire film, and what started as a 'never' turned into a 'maybe'.
In the time since, we've been pitching our way up the company hoping to get to James Gunn. But for now, here's a taste of what we've been cooking.

Comme je vous l'avais annoncé, c'est donc le distributeur The Jokers qui se chargera de la sortie cinéma française de The Peasants (Chlopi), long métrage en rotoscopie / peinture animée par l'équipe de Loving Vincent.
Réalisé par D.K. Welchman et Hugh Welchman via BreakThru Films, le film est attendu le 20 mars 2024 dans les salles françaises sous le titre "La Jeune Fille et les Paysans".

3 ans après ma précédente news relative, le tout premier long métrage d'animation du réalisateur Bong Joon-Ho (Parasite, Okja, The Host...) entre enfin en production cette année.
Si ce projet n'a toujours pas de titre officiel, il est déjà acté qu'il sera doté du plus gros budget de toute l'histoire (pas si ancienne) du cinéma sud-coréen (environ 50 millions de dollars), qu'il sera en 3D (comme déjà annoncé), animé par le studio 4th Creative Party, avec le directeur photo Hong Kyung-pyo (à nouveau), le tout distribué à l'international par Sony Pictures.
L'occasion aussi de rappeler que la toute première réalisation de Bong Joon-Ho était un court métrage d'animation.

L'information est visiblement passée à côté des sites de news d'animation, et pourtant elle n'est pas sans intérêt : l'animateur indépendant américain Julian Glander (déjà vu dans mes colonnes) s'apprête à sortir son tout premier long métrage d'animation, Boys Go to Jupiter.
Un film qu'il a financé lui même, et qui s'accompagnera d'un casting vocal/musique loin d'être amateur (Jack Corbett, Elsie Fisher, Tavi Gevinson, Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman, Joe Pera, Grace Kuhlenschmidt, Miya Folick, Cole Escola, Chris Fleming, River Ramirez, Eva Victor, Max Wittert ...).
Une histoire de passage à l'âge adulte façon surréaliste, et visiblement toujours façon 3D *low-poly*, fidèle aux précédents travaux parfois WTF de l'artiste.

Hypergalactic est le nom d'un futur long métrage d'animation 3D japonais, qui au delà de son titre pourrait bien vouloir s'aventurer vers l'infini et au delà du marché japonais, au regard du staff assez métissé, et du public cible familial, laissant penser à une prod visant l'international.
En effet, ce film produit par Toei Animation est réalisé par David N. Weiss (Shrek 2, The Smurfs), et a été co-créé par Naoto Oshima (designer de Sonic the Hedgehog) et Joseph Chou.
Si le studio d'animation rattaché au projet ne semble pour l'instant pas avoir été annoncé, il semble en tous cas que ce projet avait initialement pour titre "The Monkey Prince", chez les studios Sola Entertainment et Tenh Animation Magic.
Perso je ne suis pas plus excité que ça pour l'instant, car les productions japonaises ayant par le passé essayer de viser le marché mondial ont rarement été des chefs d'oeuvre. Une des forces des animes étant qu'ils ne sont généralement pas produits en pensant à l'international.

Cette fois normalement c'est la bonne : le film Les Maîtres du Temps de René Laloux (1982) ressortira dans les salles françaises le 24 avril 2024 via Tamasa, en version remasterisée.
Ce long métrage culte (sur lequel a collaboré Moebius) devait initialement ressortir l'an dernier, avant d'être reporté.

Si vous habitez au Japon, le très beau long métrage d'animation Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer de Mamoru Oshii (d'après le manga de Rumiko Takahashi) sera proposé sur Amazon Prime Video (abonnement classique) le 11 février prochain, pile 40 ans après sa sortie initiale (le 11 février 1984).
Pour l'occasion, j'ai mis à jour en 1080p le trailer du film sur le Catsuka Theater (merci Parotaku ;-).

Schirkoa : In Lies We Trust est un long métrage d'animation franco-indien réalisé par Ishan Shukla d'après le court métrage "Schirkoa" qu'il avait jadis signé (à noter qu'il avait aussi réalisé un court dans la 2e saison de Star Wars Visions).
Animé avec le moteur 3D Unreal Engine, le film est produit par Red Cigarette Media (Inde) et Dissidenz Films (France), ainsi que Rapid Eye Movies (Allemagne) en copro.
Le cast de voix est également assez international : Golshifteh Farahani, Asia Argento, Lav Diaz, SoKo, King Khan, Karan Johar, Shekhar Kapur, Anurag Kashyap, Gaspar Noé...
Pas de dates de sortie en salles encore annoncées, le film débutant d'abord sa vie en festivals (dont ces jours ci à Rotterdam).

Stopmotion est le titre d'un long métrage live d'horreur qui contient des séquences stop-motion, et qui est réalisé par Robert Morgan, lui même connu comme animateur (notamment pour les courts "The Cat with Hands", "The Separation", "Bobby Yeah"...).
Le film sort dans les salles américaines le 23 février, puis sur Shudder le 31 mai.
