Shenku est un projet de long-métrage d'animation familial produit par le studio argentin Bellolandia, qui vient de mettre en ligne un joli trailer / pilote relatif.
Réalisé par Micaela Gabot & Nacho Malter (d'après une idée originale de Micaela).
Shenku is the new caretaker of the Greenhouse Sanctuary, a place where the spirits of troubled plants can spend time and relax while they work through their problems until they can find eternal peace. Shenku’s insecurities and inexperience in his new role starts an increasing wave of commotion that burst into chaos when the spirit of a young basil, called Planti, arrives at the Sanctuary. Planti needs help defeating a ferocious cat that endangers his family in the world of the living and Shenku has to be up to the task. Together, they embark on a journey that tests their courage and helps them learn to trust in their own abilities in order to succeed.

Les plus anciens d'entre vous se souviendront peut-être qu'il y a plus de 10 ans je vous invitais à participer à une campagne Kickstarter pour The Saga of Rex, un projet indé de long métrage de l'animateur canadien Michel Gagne, adapté de sa propre BD.
Et bien 10 ans plus tard, il continue d'animer ce long métrage tout seul, il en est à 73%, et il estime encore à quelques années de travail (en parallèle de ses autres boulots) pour finir ce film.
Il a posté aujourd'hui une nouvelle petite preview via la page de sa campagne (que j'avais en outre soutenue aussi).

Il y a quelques jours je vous parlais d'Hina is Beautiful, nouveau projet de long métrage du réalisateur japonais indé Kenji Iwaisawa (On-Gaku), que j'avais poussé très tôt, et qui s'associe cette fois avec Naoyuki Asano (Eizouken, Urusei Yatsura) pour les designs et la direction de l'animation. Le tout produit par Rock'n'Roll Mountain et Yuya Machida (ABC Animation).
Ce projet (et son pilote) sera présenté au Marché du Film du Festival de Cannes - dans le cadre de l'événement Annecy Goes to Cannes - qui ont mis en ligne une vidéo visiblement peu relayée pour présenter les projets relatifs à cet événement, et dans laquelle on peut y découvrir 10 belles premières secondes de Hina (qui sera donc à nouveau en rotoscopie, comme Ongaku).
Et vous pouvez toujours compter sur moi pour dénicher et partager de belles choses.
Set in Izu, Japan. Men are fighting over a woman called Hina. What is it exactly that makes Hina mislead men? As the men try to reveal their true feelings for Hina, strong, muscly men also get involved and the sound of the festival drum signals the start of a confrontation.

C'est assez rare (toutes langues confondues) pour être signalé : une interview (en japonais) de Shigeru Miyamoto au sujet du film de Super Mario Bros.
Et au détour de ce entretien, il précise que les designs de la famille de Mario (le papa et la maman) avait déjà été créés/dessinés il y a 20 ans, par Yoichi Kotabe et lui même.

"Robot Dreams" est un long métrage espagnol co-produit avec la France, réalisé par Pablo Berger, jusque là connu pour des films en prise de vues réelles.
Adapté de la BD du même nom de Sara Varon, ce film sera présenté en compétition (catégorie Contrechamp) au prochain Festival d'Annecy.

Festival d'Annecy 2023 : 1ère vague de long métrages (ma présélec en attendant le programme complet)
Présent hier comme souvent à la conférence de presse annuelle du Festival d'Annecy, j'ai pu relayer sur Twitter quelques infos alors annoncées pour cette édition 2023.
Mais comme pas mal de films très attendus ont malheureusement été absents de la conférence, alors qu'ils font bien partie du programme (sans doute une question de temps limité, mais quand même), je vous fais déjà un petit récap perso de cette première vague concernant principalement les long métrages donc, qui sont chaque année le coeur de cette conférence (avec les WIP et autres séances spéciales), puisque les sélections de courts sont elles déjà annoncées bien en amont en ligne (et ne sont pas présentées pendant la conférence).
Donc ci-dessous vous retrouverez une sélection non exhaustive (comme toujours selon mes goûts et mon flair) des long métrages - pour l'instant annoncés - qui seront présentés lors du festival, soit en avant-première, soit en preview, soit en Work in progress. Je vous avais déjà parlé par le passé de la majeure partie de ces films, et pour certains les premières images avaient été dévoilées ici même, sur Catsuka.
Et bien sûr, je vous ferai ma préselec globale/habituelle pour Annecy 2023 dans quelques semaines, lorsque le programme complet du festival sera en ligne/annoncé. L'édition de cette année semble en tous cas, comme à chaque fois, très copieuse (et attention le festival s'étends un petit peu en durée cette année, avec davantage de séances dès le dimanche, y compris la cérémonie d'ouverture désormais).

"Fixed" est le nouveau projet de Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Primal, Unicorn Warriors Eternal), qui ne se repose visiblement pas, puisqu'il présentera les premières images lors du prochain Festival d'Annecy.

Amazon (Prime Video) semble avoir beaucoup d'appétit pour Batman, puisqu'après avoir récupéré la production de la série Batman: Caped Crusader (annulée par HBO Max), ils viennent de commander deux autres nouveaux projets liés à l'homme chauve souris, ou plutôt l'enfant chauve souris, puisqu'il s'agit de projets kids & family tournant autour du jeune Damian Wayne : Bat-Family (série) et Merry Little Batman (film).

Le studio d'animation Production I.G a annoncé travailler sur un long métrage basé sur le manga The Concierge at Hokkyoku Department Store de Tsuchika Nishimura.
Le film est réalisé par le talentueux animateur et designer Yoshimi Itazu (Pigtails), qui devait terminer Dreaming Machine de Satoshi Kon (avant que le projet ne soit définitivement enterré par Madhouse...).
Sortie prévue cet automne.

Quel plaisir de pointer Hina is Beautiful, nouveau projet du réalisateur japonais indé Kenji Iwaisawa, qui avait co-signé en 2019 le chouette On-Gaku, que j'avais flairé très tôt.
L'autre bonne nouvelle étant qu'il s'associe cette fois avec un top animator, Naoyuki Asano (Eizouken, Urusei Yatsura), qui sera en charge du character-design et de la direction de l'animation. Le scénario étant lui assuré par Takamasa Oe (Drive My Car).
Le film est actuellement sur les rails mais pas encore terminé, il sera prospecté lors du prochain Marché du Film du Festival de Cannes (via le programme Annecy Goes to Cannes).
Un film qui utilisera à nouveau la rotoscopie, et dont je pense aussi préssentir en avance, via le seul bout d'image dispo, la patte graphique personnelle d'Asano, jusque là méconnue du grand public, car il ne l'a jamais mise au service d'une prod, mais qui peut être entraperçue dans un livre très rare (dojin) qu'il a auto-édité il y a quelques années au Japon (et que je possède / voir le visuel de couverture plus bas).

Au détour d'un communiqué du festival d'Annecy annonçant les projets sélectionnés pour leurs Pitchs MIFA 2023, je souhaitais pointer l'existence de Mfinda, projet de long métrage d'animation dit "afro-anime" (selon ses créateurs).
Produit entre le Congo, les USA et le Japon, par N LITE, Studio M2 (Masao Maruyama) et GKIDS, ce long métrage en devenir a pour réalisateurs Gisaburo Sugii (vétéran de l'animation au Japon) et Arthell Isom.
Le projet en lui même ayant été créé par Patience Lekien, et co-scénarisé avec Christiano Malik.
A young girl named Odi faces familial crisis and political turmoil in 1970's Democratic Republic of Congo. When danger comes close to home, she is transported to the Mfinda, a magical spirit forest in precolonial Kingdom of Kongo.
