Issu du programme "Anime Manga Explosion" qui consacre des portraits à des légendes de l'animation japonaise (artistes, studios, etc), ce nouveau long épisode revient donc sur la carrière du producteur et co-fondateur historique des studios Madhouse, MAPPA et M2.
Il est aujourd'hui âgé de 82 ans, mais toujours très actif. Sachant qu'on lui doit aussi d'avoir repéré et produit très tôt de grands noms comme Satoshi Kon, Mamoru Hosoda, Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Masaaki Yuasa, Sunao Katabuchi ou encore Takeshi Koike.

Si je n'ai pas pour habitude de relayer ce genre de choses pas très officielle, il s'agit cependant ici des fameux fanfilms / openings réalisés par Hideaki Anno et ses amis (avant de créer Gainax) en 1981 et 1983 (pour la convention Daicon) et dans lesquels on voit des personnages de divers animes dont ils n'avaient pas les droits non plus, donc l'un dans l'autre ;-]...
J'en ai profité pour mettre à jour via ce nouveau master certaines vidéos que j'héberge sur le Catsuka Player depuis plus de 20 ans, à savoir Daicon 3, Daicon 4 Making of, et le prologue de Daicon 4. Mais pas le clip principal de Daicon 4 lui même, car ce nouveau master n'est pas mieux (voire moins bien) qu'une précédente capture Domesday Duplicator qui avait déjà été faite en 2021, et que j'avais déjà poussé également ;-]

Ce qui, outre l'hommage tardif à Ghibli, fait en tout 6 films d'animation cette année (+ 1 en compétition parallèle, et sans compter les court métrages).
Pas mal, car même si beaucoup sont comme d'habitude en séances "jeunesse" ou sur la plage, c'est au global bien plus comparé aux habitudes du festival sur les dernières années (pour ne pas dire décennies) précédentes.
Donc :
- "Angelo dans la forêt mystérieuse" (In The Dark Mysterious Forest / évoqué ici et là), par Winshluss (Persepolis) - d'après sa BD - et Alexis Ducord (Zombillenium).
- "Sauvages" by Claude Barras (Ma vie de Courgette).

Et aujourd'hui je pointe celle de la série d'OAV Ariel (4 épisodes, 1989), qui n'était sortie qu'en VHS et Laserdisc à l'époque, et qui vient d'être remasterisée en HD pour une sortie Blu-ray prévue en juillet dans un beau (et cher évidemment, marché japonais oblige) coffret baptisé "Ariel OVA - Blu-ray Archive Box - 35th Anniversary Edition".
Cet anime était basé sur les romans de Yuichi Sasamoto illustrés par le talentueux dessinateur Masahisa Suzuki, dont je possède plusieurs artbooks (#CatsuKollection).
La version la plus collector du coffret comprends des reproductions de Suzuki, et sinon il y a une version standard.

Réalisé par Usman Riaz au studio Mano Animation, le film sera présenté en avant première au prochain Festival d'Annecy, où il avait déjà été dévoilé précédemment lors d'une séance Work in Progress.
Sortie prévue le 26 juillet au Pakistan, et en ventes internationales actuellement via Charades.

Dans le flot habituel d'annonces d'invités / séances événements / long métrages que j'ai eu le temps de relayer, qui ont retenu mon attention (et qui n'avaient pas encore été annoncés) figurent entre autres :
- de beaux invités comme : Regina Pessoa (qui signe aussi l'affiche, le pays invité étant cette année le Portugal), Wes Anderson, Terry Gilliam (qui recevra un Cristal d'Honneur), et Alain Chabat (qui viendra présenter sa série d'animation d'Astérix pour Netflix).
- "The Storm", le long métrage chinois de Busifan que j'ai beaucoup poussé ces derniers mois (et j'en ai d'ailleurs profité pour partager un visuel spécial/inédit pour cette sélection Annecy, que m'avait fourni en amont le vendeur international du film, qui se trouve être un français (coucou Fred ;-)).
- "The Worlds Divide", le long métrage quasi solo de Denver Jackson (dont j'avais fait la promo de la campagne Kickstarter).
- "Gill", le nouveau film de Jae-Hoon Ahn et des sud-coréens du Studio MWP (dont j'avais poussé "Green Days" il y a fort longtemps).
- les films Cannois "La Plus Précieuse des Marchandises", "Flow" et "Anzu chat-fantôme" seront aussi récupérés/projetés à Annecy.
- en notant d'ailleurs que les long métrages d'animation japonais sont cette année très présents au festival, avec aussi "The Colors Within", "Totto-Chan" , "The Birth of Kitaro", "Sand Land", ou "The Imaginary".
- le très attendu (par moi en tous cas) "Sauvages" sera aussi de la partie. Il s'agit du nouveau long métrage stop motion de Claude Barras (Ma vie de Courgette / My Life as a Zucchini).
- enfin, je précise qu'il a été annoncé que la séance "Making-Of" de la série "Arcane" (Riot / Fortiche Prod) sera centrée non pas sur la première saison, mais sur la 2ème qui n'est pas encore sortie, donc il y aura sans doute pas mal de "previews".
Et si je n'ai pas eu le temps de les live tweeter, j'ai aussi été stimulé par les annonces des projections de "Angelo dans la forêt mystérieuse" (Winshluss / Alexis Ducord / Je Suis Bien Content), "Memoir of a Snail" (le nouveau film d'Adam Elliot, réalisateur de l'excellent "Mary & Max"), "Slocum et moi" (le nouveau film du vétéran de l'anim français Jean-François Laguionie), et "The Glassworker" (que je n'ai jamais encore pris le temps d'investiguer mais qui est sur mes tablettes depuis longtemps).
